19 sued for killing UP chairman Ruhul

Update : 19 Jun 2013, 01:40 PM

The wife of Ruhul Amin, a union parishad chairman who was murdered on Sunday, has filed a case against 19 suspects three days after the incident.

Police said in her written complaint, Baby Nazneen, wife of the murdered Awami League chairman, claimed her husband was a victim of “previous enmity”.

She filed the case with the Jhenaidah police station on Tuesday evening, bringing murder charges against, among others, a joint convener of district Awami Juba League Rabiul Islam Rabi.

A source related to Jhenaidah police said suspected motives that could have led to his murder included intraparty rivalry, family feuds Ruhul’s excesses of power and his chequered past as a member of a banned outfit.

Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah police station, Kazi Jala Uddin Ahmed, said they had taken cognisance of the complaint made by Baby Nazneen and assured her of legal action against the killers.

The murder took place on Sunday evening, when 52-year-old Ruhul was attacked by a bomb and stabbed to death by unidentified killers near the town’s Al Falah Clinic.

The late chairman of Naldanga union parishad was known to have a private gang of his own, named Ruhul Bahini. He lived at Bagutia village in the Jhenaidah sadar upazila.
