Update : 19 Jun 2013, 06:33 AM

The government is likely to extend the tenure of Grameen Bank Commission for two month to complete its final report on financial and operational links of the Grameen Bank and its sister organisations.

The commission has already submitted its interim report to the finance ministry in February this year, official sources said.

The commission is going to get two months more as it could not prepare its final report to find out the relationship between Nobel Peace Prize winning Grameen Bank and its 54 sister concerns and make recommendations on how to run the organisations, said a senior official of finance division, seeking anonymity.

The official also said the duration of Grameen Bank will end on June 30, and it will hold a workshop on July 3 after its extension. On May 19, 2012, the Bank and financial Institutions Division formed a four –member commission under The Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956.

Then, the commission members was given three months’ time to submit its report.

The four-member commission headed by retired secretary Mamunur Rashid is reviewing the purposes, legal status and operations of the institutions, companies and enterprises established by the Grameen Bank.

Other members of the commission are: Barrister Ajmalul Hossain QC and Mosleh Uddin Ahmed FCA. Director General of Planning and Development Academy MA Kamal is acting as the member secretary.
