The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has organised a three-day programme to celebrate completion of 150 years of its establishment.
The celebrations will commence from Friday.
A number of distinguished guests from home and abroad will take part in the programme, said the city Mayor M Manjur Alam.
The city was being given a facelift to bring a festive mood during the
celebration, he said, adding that
the city corporation councillors, officials and employees were working
together to make the programme a
success.
CCC sources said a colourful procession would be brought out from the MA Aziz Stadium on Friday, a discussion meeting would be held at a community centre on Saturday and a get
together of the corporation officials and employees would be held on the concluding day of the programme on Sunday.
The Local Government and Rural Development Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will be the chief guest at the discussion meeting when Primary and Mass Education Minister Absarul Amin Chowdhury, Forest and Environment Minister Hasan Mahmud, Industry Minister Dilip Barua and State Minister for Local Government, Rural
Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak will be special guests.
According to the CCC sources, the Chittagong municipal committee was formed on June 22, 1863.
The committee was later converted into a municipality and upgraded to Municipal Corporation in the year 1982. It became the Municipal City Corporation in 1990.
