The Department of Environment Monday served a show-cause notice to the Managing Director of Karnaphuli Paper Mill Limited for not taking measures to set effluent-treatment plant despite repeated direction.
Jafar Alam, director of the department that issued the notice, said during their visit at the factory located in Chandraghona area of Rangamati in the morning, that they found no ETP and the factory had been running without any clearance certificate from the DoE.
"The water of the Karnaphuli River is being polluted severely with the untreated chemical wastages of the factory and the land and air of the area are also being polluted," he said, adding that diversity of flora and fauna had been endangered for not using effluent-treatment plant at the factory.
