More than a hundred workers of a garment factory in Gazipur district fell ill after drinking water from a tap inside the factory on Sunday.
Witnesses and workers said some workers of the East West garment factory in Gazipur’s Board Bazaar area started feeling chest pain after drinking water from the tap around 10am.
Some of them started throwing out a little later while some other complained of severe headache.
Our correspondent reported that at least 60 workers were admitted to the Tairunnessa Medical College Hospital, 20 to the Sultan General Hospital and 30 to the Gazipur Sadar Hospital.
Gazipur Civil Surgeon Dr Habibur Rahman said the water that the workers drank might have had some kind of contamination.
He also said the water from the factory’s supply tank was being tested to find out the exact reason for the incident.
On June 6, more than 450 workers of another garment factory – Starlight Sweaters – in Bhogra in the same district fell ill after drinking contaminated water.
