Bangladesh Navy team leaves for Lebanon

A team of 160 Bangladesh Navy personnel will leave Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong by UN Chartered plane for Lebanon on Friday.

The navy team (BANCON-4) will board the BNS Osman and the BNS Modhumoti now deployed in Peacekeeping operations under the banner of the United Nations interim force in Lebanon, said an ISPR release, reports BSS.

Meanwhile, another group of 160 Navy personnel left Shah Amanat International Airport by UN Chartered plane on Thursday. Commodore Commanding Chittagong Commodore Akhter Habib bid farewell to the Lebanon bound team at the airport.

In a short speech, prior to the departure, Commodore Habib urged them to work with honesty, sincerity and professionalism to earn appreciation and good name for the country.

Besides, Navy personnel of BANCON-3 who are now in Lebanon would return Bangladesh on Saturday and June 16 after finishing their professional duties, the release said.

Bangladesh Navy Warships have been contributing directly to the UN peacekeeping operations since 2010.

It is expected that Bangladesh through its participation in peacekeeping operations will earn name and fame in the international arena, it said adding that side by side the country will also earn huge amount of foreign currency and build a positive image, make diplomatic relations strengthen with friendly countries and open a new gateway for more deployment of Navy personnel in the UN Mission.
