Three children were killed in three separate incidents including a road accident within a period of 16 hours in Jhenaidah on Friday.
A two-year-old child drowned to death in a pond in Kathalia village under Kotchandpur upazila in the morning. The deceased was Asif Biswas. Family sources said that Asif was playing with his friends when he suddenly went to the pond and drowned in the water.
On the same day, a three-year-old child drowned to death in a pond at Manaharpur village in Kaliganj upazila in another incident. The deceased was Mahmudul Islam. He was playing with his family members but suddenly went on hiding.
In the evening of Friday, an eleven-year-old schoolboy crushed to death under the wheels of a Kushtia bound bus of Gorai Paribahan. The victim was Iman Ali, 11, of Khayertala village in Kaliganj upazila, was a student of class six in a local school.
This ‘accident’ instigated about a hundred protesters to begin a one-hour road blockade in the Jessore- Jhenaidah highway. They demanded arrest of the killer bus driver.
Liakat Ali, Kaliganj police station officer-in-charge, said the Jhenaidah police caught the bus later.
Three separate cases were field with respective police stations, police said.
