With an increase of Tk6.7bn, the home ministry has been allocated Tk95.88bn for the fiscal year 2013-14 which is about 4.3% of the total budget.
In the previous fiscal of 2012-13 the ministry received Tk89.08bn.
Of the amount, Tk88.47bn was allocated for the non-development and the rest Tk7.31bn for development programmes. In the last fiscal budget Tk83.02bn was for non-development and Tk6.06bn for development purposes.
Apart from the secretariat, Bangladesh Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Department of Ansars and Village Defence Party (VDP), Department of Prisons, Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), Coast Guard, Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and Department of Passport and Immigration are among those under the home ministry.
Of the total allocation for the ministry Tk8.22bn goes to the home secretariat, Tk53.24bn to Bangladesh Police, Tk15.26bn to the BGB, Tk6.63bn to the Ansars and VDP, Tk5.02bn to the Prison Department, Tk2.3bn to FSCD, Tk1.41bn to Coast Guard, Tk410m to DNC, Tk3.14bn to Passport and Immigration Department and Tk16.5m to different autonomous and international bodies, institutions and organisations.
Compared to the last 2012-13 fiscal-year, budget allocation for the home secretariat has seen a rise of Tk1.86bn, police department got an increase of Tk1.49bn, BGB Tk2.41bn, Ansars and VDP Tk350m, Prison Department Tk280m, FSCD Tk280m, Coast Guard Tk10m and DNC Tk60m.
Out of the total allocation for the Bangladesh Police Tk23.24bn is for the Police Directorate, Tk700m for Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Tk1bn for Special Branch (SB), Tk7.78bn for Metropolitan Police, Tk19.52bn for District Police, Tk60m for upazila police, Tk320m for Railway Police and Tk58m for Police Training School.
Although Tk2.3bn has been allocated for the Police Directorate there is no allocation for the development of the CID, SB, Railway Police, Metropolitan Police, District Police and upazila police.
