Update : 06 Jun 2013, 09:49 AM

A mass signature campaign was held in the city yesterday morning, protesting failure of police in arresting killers of schoolboy Inan in the last two months and demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Local elites, classmates, students, teachers, guardians and family members of the victim took part in the campaign that has been held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.

The organisers and signatories of the programme said Samir Rafi Inan, 16, class X student of Barisal Government Zilla School and only son of Zahangir Hossain Tanu, a contractor of Baro Bari Lane in Banglabazaar area of the city was beaten to death by young terrorists of the area on April 7, 2013 following altercations over playing cricket.

Father of the victim lodged a murder case in this connection on April 8 with Barisal Kotwali police station accusing seven people.

Accused of the case are: Rifat, Rishad, sons of Rafikul Islam Gafur, vice president of city Jatiya Party (Ershad), Shimon, Hasan, Rana, Jumman and Sourav.

Local people, after nabbing Sourav, one of the accused, handed him over to the police and besides that none of the others accused were arrested, nor did the investigation of the case advance, the protestors said.

They also alleged that the accused and their family members were putting pressure on the Inan family to withdraw the case and make compromises, taking the chance of indifference of the police.

They cautioned that if the authorities would not assure immediate

arrest and punishment of the killers, they would announce tougher programmes.

Officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali police station said investigation into the killing and drives to arrest the accused are going on.
