Update : 05 Jun 2013, 03:29 PM

US Secretary of State John Kerry is likely to visit Bangladesh on June 25 after completing his scheduled trip to India.

“We are working on it. There is a possibility that he [Kerry] might visit Bangladesh on June 25,” said an official of the foreign ministry.

However, Press and Information Officer of US embassy to Dhaka Kelly McCarthy said: “We do not have any travel announcement to make at this time.”

Kerry promised to visit Dhaka during his meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni in Washington last month, said the foreign ministry official.

“Also State Department undersecretary Wendy Sherman in a press briefing in Dhaka last month said he would soon visit Dhaka,” he added.

In 2012 in May, the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Dhaka.

In March, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni invited her US counterpart Kerry to visit Bangladesh. Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque conveyed the invitation to Kerry during his visit to Washington in the same month.
