Police arrested a person, falsely claiming to be the father of an underage girl and arranging her marriage.
A team of Meherpur Sadar thana police, led by Sub-Inspector Ali Akbar arrested the impostor, Shajahan, from his house in Dighirgarila under Natore district on Sunday night.
Police and villagers said about four months ago a dredging driver Abdul Gafur, 50, of Hatibhanga village under Lalmonirhat district came to Subidpur village under Meherpur Sadar upazila for digging ponds. While working there, he eloped with a girl studying in Grade-7, from the village.
On May 2, 2013, Abdur Rahim, father of the girl, filed an abduction case with the police against Gafur, said Sub-Inspector Ali Akbar.
The case statement said the dredging driver kidnapped the teenager on April 27 and took her to Natore.
Police have already recovered the dredging equipment from Satian village under Gangni upazila in the district, but are yet to learn about Gafur and the girl’s whereabouts.
