Update : 04 Jun 2013, 07:37 AM

Two alleged robbers were killed in a fight with police at City Gate under Pahartali police station in the port city early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Selim, 25, and Manik, 26, reports UNB.

Officer-in-charge of Pahartali police station Syed Abdur Rauf said a police team, following a tip-off, conducted a raid on a house in City Gate area where a gang was preparing to commit robbery around 1:15am.

Sensing danger, the gang members attacked law enforcement officers with sharp weapons, triggering a fierce fight.

Two of the suspected robbers died on the spot while two others sustained severe injuries during the fight. They all were said to have suffered wounds from their own weapons.

Police, however, arrested eight ‘robbers’, including the ‘ringleader’, Belal.

Two guns, 10 bullets, two machetes and other weapons were recovered from the scene.
