Update : 03 Jun 2013, 04:26 AM

Bengal Foundation’s newly formed wing Bengal Film Development Forum announced that they will invest Tk6 million per person on 20 young film makers, as it is a common knowledge that talented film makers in the country are unable to make films due to lack of funds and many ventures are left unfinished.

Bengal Foundation, one of the biggest institutions working for the country’s cultural progress, has taken up the elaborate project for the development of Bangladeshi cinema.

The forum’s first official launching was held through a press conference held at the Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi at June 1, where the stakeholders introduced their plan, ventures and decisions on matters regarding investments.

The advisory board members through the press conference formally called film makers to submit screenplays by the following three months. After a selection process, they will pick only a handful of films for the first venture, where full-length films and documentaries of duration 90 to 120 minutes will be made under the “Young Filmmaker Project.”

While talking about the investments, director general of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury said: “This is an initiative to provide a stronger base for our film industry, to encourage audience once again to visit the cinemas. We are planning to increase the number of films made each year, through promoting young film makers interested to serve our film industry. We are inviting young film makers across the country through the Bengal Film Development Forum to participate by providing them the fund needed.”

She further mentioned that anyone interested to invest for the development of the film industry will be more than welcome to join in their project.

About the selection process of films, veteran film director Morshedul Islam mentioned that, only films with good storylines and script will get these facilities from Bengal Film Development Forum.

Bengal Film Development Forum officially declared to start building 400 cultural centers across the country which will include film screening facilities, bookshop and cafeterias.

Bengal Film Development Advisory Forum constitutes of MP Asaduzzaman Nur, Syed Shamsul Haque, Morshedul Islam, Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Shahidul Islam Khokon, Kathrin Masud, Afsana Mimi, Robin Devis, Sazzad Sharif, Shamim Akhter and Manzarehassin Murad.
