University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) opened its annual book fair with a “Rabindra-Nazrul Utshab” on Tuesday, May 28. The two day fair is open for all from 10am till 7pm. The festival was held to celebrate the centenary of Tagore receiving the Nobel Prize and the coming of Kazi Nazrul Islam to Bangladesh.
Poetry books, novels, and short stories by Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam are available from Pathok Somabesh, Nazrul Institute, and Bangla Academy. Books published by ULAB faculty and trustee members are also available. The collection is elaborate and book lovers will appreciate the volumes available. Pathak Shamabesh, has on display, a twenty volume collection of Tagore that costs taka twenty thousand, a special price for this fair.
Nazrul Institute has a collection of Nazrul’s work and books written about him. Bangla Academy displays hundreds of books on Nazrul and Tagore. ULAB library showcased marvelous and exclusive works by Tgore and Nazrul. The novel “Bhairab” by Kazi Shahid Ahmed is also available at the fair. A substantial crowd of book lovers joined the fair on the first day.
Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, Director General, Bangla Academy, inaugurated the fair as Chief Guest. In his opening remarks, Professor Khan called Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam “the two stars in the sky of Bengali literature - there is no limit to their contribution.” Kazi Shahid Ahmed, president, ULAB Board of Trustees, spoke on the opening session.
