Prachyanat to stage comedy ‘Kinu Kaharer Thetar’ Tuesday

Prachyanat, one of the most popular theatre troupes, will stage its acclaimed play “Kinu Kahare Thetar” at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Tuesday at 7pm.

The 15th production of Prachyanat will be staged as part of an ongoing theatre festival organised by Northern Theatre, the theatre wing of Bangladesh Northern University.

Written by Manoj Mitra and directed by Kaji Taufiqul Islam Imon, the play revolves around an imaginary country named Putna, ruled by a deceitful king. A comedy, the play moves forward with several humorous incidents that ultimately unveils a crucial truth.

The minister of Putna province molests a woman. So the English Lord issues an order: “if this doesn’t get justice I will toss the throne.” The king falls in great trouble as the minister is his closest mate and he depends on him very much. So he advises the minister to falsely fix a man to admit the crime as his and take the punishment. So Ghontakorno becomes the “criminal” and in return his wife Jogodombha takes four bags of money from the king. Everyday all the thieves, dacoits and criminals come to hire Ghontakorno for their punishments.

This play satires the political leaders and judicial system of this country. The play’s strong dialogues, sarcasm and brilliant narrative always amuse audience.
