At least 16 shops were gutted in a fire, which broke out in the Hawkers’ Market at Deobhog in Sadar upazila early Tuesday, reports UNB.
Sources at the local fire service said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shop of the market near railway lines at about 5am and soon it engulfed adjoining shops.
On information, two firefighting units of the district rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after half an hour of frantic efforts.
The affected shop owners initially estimated the loss from fire at about Tk5m.
