The North Korean Mission’s First Secretary Han Son Ik has left the country after he was caught smuggling tobacco and electronics into the country.
Customs officials seized a large batch of tobacco and electronic products, worth Tk3.5 crore, from Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD) last month.
The North Korean diplomat reportedly brought the items without due process.
The National Board of Revenue wrote to the Foreign Secretary about the incident asked him to be removed.
This is the second time North Korean diplomats were asked to leave the country as in 2014 another Korean diplomat was found guilty of gold smuggling.
