To facilitate safe and uninterrupted communication during the rainy season and in Ramadan afterwards, the communication ministry has cancelled all kinds of holidays of concerned officials including those in the roads and highway department till the next Eid.
The decision was taken at a meeting headed by Communication Minister Obaidul Qader at the Secretariat earlier today.
The minister announced the decision at a post-meeting briefing session for the journalists.
He also said 19 committees have been formed to oversee repairs of roads and highways in the next three months, in a bid to improve communication.
Obaidul Qade said some mobile units including loaded trucks with construction materials will always be kept ready to fill up the wholes or cracks of the national, regional and districts level roads.
The meeting also took the decision to form 19 monitoring teams to supervise the repair and maintenance activities of roads. The teams will supervise the activities for next three months, he said.
The officials and engineers have been ordered to stay in their work places full time. But, in case of emergency, the officials or engineers may get leaves with the prior approval of the higher authority, he added.
Obaidul Quader also said that, the government is going to form a ‘Cabinet Committee on Roads Safety’ soon. A gazette notification will be published within seven days in this regard.
The committee would work out a planning to take steps on eviction of illegal floating markets and structures that were built beside the national and regional highways, banning ‘Nosimon’, ‘Korimon’ and ‘Votvoti’s from highways and reduce the traffic congestion and road accidents.
