Young and talented dancers Mahabub Hossain and Tahnun Ahmedy were awarded dance scholarship from Shadhona – a centre for advancement of South Asian culture. Mahabub and Tahnun will be training for a year in Kolkata under the guidance of the Certificate Course of dance organization “Rhythmosaic.” The financial support for this scholarship has been provided by the SAARC Women’s Association (SWA) of Bangladesh.
Mahabub started his dance tuitions from Bangladesh Shishu Academy in 2006 under the care of renowned dance master M R Waseque. With the guidance from his guru, the young talent started dreaming up a dance career and performed in national and international level.
Mahbub joined Shadhona after receiving his first certificate and appeared in the popular dance drama directed by Warda Rihab titled “TasherDesh,” where he played the character of Dahala Pundit.The multi-talented prodigy is skilled in Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, Contemporary, Raybeshe, and Folk. While talking about the award for the scholarship Mahabub told the Dhaka Tribune:
“I am really very happy with the scholarship. It’s a great opportunity for me and also I will have a lot to contribute to dance in Bangladesh. Shadhona is always there to promote talented dancers and make it possible for them to train to their best ability, by arranging financial support and scholarships. After this scholarship, I am planning to add more in our dance style and also want to improve my style.”
Tahnun Ahmedy started dancing in 2004 at Bagngladesh Shishu Academy. She performs Kathak, Monipuri, Contemporary, Raybeshe, and Folk. After being awarded Tahnunshares her plans:
“I am really grateful to Shadhona and others who made this scholarship possible for me. I want to learn more and create my own style in dance.”
Mahabub and Tahnun performed in ten dance dramas with renowned choreographers of Bangladesh. Both of them worked with M R Waseque, Lubna Mariam, Sharmila, Warda Rihab, Sabbir Ahmed Biju, Amit Chowdhury, Shibli Mohammad, Shamim Ara Nipa, Samina Hossain Prema and many more.
At the end of the event Nyeem, who has just returned after completing the course, performed a few dance recitals with the scholarship awardees.
The special occasion was graced with the presence of Sonia Imran (President, SWA), TarunaChakravorty (Wife of the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh), Chairperson of Shadhona, Alimur-Rahman Khan and General Secretary of Shadhona, LubnaMarium.
