3 BCL men suspended over assaulting journo at CU

The authority of Chittagong University (CU) has suspended three activists of ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the university for two months in connection with physically assaulting a university newsman. The suspended BCL men are—Showkat Ali and Saifuddin Khaled Banna, students of Political Science department under 2014-2015 session and Md Rakibul Hasan of History department under 2013-2014 academic session, said university sources. “The decision was taken from a meeting of Residence Health and Disciplinary Committee of the university on Monday where the three BCL men were suspended for two months as they were found guilty over assaulting a journo”, said CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury at a press briefing at his office . All the suspended BCL men belong to university shuttle train based BCL faction “Concord”, backed by city unit Awami League general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, said campus sources. Earlier, the BCL men beat up Communication and Journalism department’s 4th year student Rakib Kamal, also a university reporter of Daily Manab Kantha, near the Arts and Humanities Faculty of the university on Sunday.
