Update : 21 May 2013, 06:20 AM

The government constructed a building to operate a meteorological office in Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur district five years ago, but the building is still not in usable condition.

The building was constructed on 1.5 acres of land at Char Sekandar at a cost of Tk10m.

The place has now become a spot for gambling, Ramgati Municipality Mayor Shahed Ali Potu said.

The office was made for the safety of around 62,000 fishermen who catches fish in Meghna River every day.

Rahim Majhi, who provided land for the met office said: “I gave this land with huge expectations. If we had land, we could get benefit from there. I urge the government to start the office as soon as possible.”

Lakshimur disctrict relief officer Arbinda Kishor said they had already informed high-officials. New officials will be recruited within a few months.
