Update : 20 May 2013, 06:39 PM

National Sports Council, the governing authority of the Bangabandhu National Stadium and the hockey stadium has been hit hard by no less than 142 legal suits by the shop-owners who were termed as illegal possessors during the last caretaker government’s tenure. A total of 142 shops in a fours storied super market adjacent from the hockey stadium and in the volleyball stadium, were show caused by NSC, as their papers of possession appeared flimsy.  Reacting to the NSC step, all the shop owners gradually started to lodge cases in court, demanding permanent ownership. Consequently, NSC has been deprived of monthly rent from the stores for the last couple of years. The 142 cases in 12 categories has caused a large problem for the NSC. Moreover, due to the legal complications have made reaching a mutual agreeable solution difficult. Kabirul Hasan, the legal officer of the NSC, had little to say about the situation. “Lodging legal suits are their democratic right. What can we say about that? All I can say is we are looking for a conclusion that will not impede NSC’s benefits,” said Kabir.
