Five people died in city road crash

Five people were killed and two others sustained injures in two separate road accidents at Keraniganj and Uttara in the capital yesterday.

At Keraniganj three people were killed and two others were injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw rammed a motorcycle at Pouraharivita.  

Two of the deceased were identified as Russell, 22, and his friend Russell, 23, of Balsuta area under Keraniganj model police station.

Police said the Kadamtali bound CNG auto rickshaw hit the motorcycle around 12:45pm and killed two when three friends – two Russells and Faisal – were going to Nawabganj from the capital.

The driver of the auto rickshaw was also killed in the incident on the spot but his identity could not be found immediately. Two of the auto rickshaw’s passengers also sustained injuries.

Mainuddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj model police station said an UD case was filed in this connection.

In Uttara, two unidentified youths were killed under the wheels of a bus yesterday.

Uttara (West) police station’s Sub-Inspector Sumon Chandra Das said a bus of Balaka Paribahan of Gazipur-Gulistan route rammed them over when they were trying to cross the road in front of the police box around 9am.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post mortem examination. Police said on information they recovered the bodies around 10am from in front of Jasim Uddin road Police Box.

Police chased the bus and arrested its driver Lokman Miah, 32. Locals beat the driver up and handed him over to the police, said a witness.

“One of victims was wearing black-yellow stripe shirt and check lungi while the other was wearing red-black stripe shirt and full pant. They were carrying no Ids to identify them,” the SI said.
