Coast Guard and police recovered 31 bodies, said to be of Myanmar nationals, along the Teknaf coast off the Bay of Bengal on Thursday and Friday.
Of them, 24 were children, three women and four men, said our correspondent in the district. Many bodies were still floating near the coast.
A total of 22 bodies were receivered on Thursday while nine children bodies on Friday.
The bodies were recovered from the coast stretching from Sabrang to Baharchhara, said Mohammad Babul Akter, additional police super of Cox’s Bazar.
He said the victims might have been Myanmar nationals, as a boat carrying about 200 Rohingya Muslims who were evacuating ahead of tropical storm Mahasen had capsized off the Pauktaw township in Rakhine state of Myanmar on Monday.
Some of the victims were carrying Myanmar currencies with them, police said. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital later for autopsy.
