Kabaddi culprits punished

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation yesterday suspended three kabaddi players from Bangladesh Ansar for hitting referees during the women’s final of the 8th Bangladesh Games.

On April 23, Ansar and BJMC were competing for the gold medal of the women’s kabaddi and all the three referee’s sustained injuries as a group of unruly Ansar members assaulted them over a call. Bangladesh Olympic Association directed the kabaddi federation to take punitive measures before May 13 and the federation acted accordingly.

After reviewing the referees report and video footage, the federation’s verdict was to suspend Ansar officials Abdul Aziz, Nur-e-Alam, assistant commandeer Sajal and sports officer Md. Saifuddin for two years, player Kachi Rani Mondal for one year and warned manager Rehana Parvin for instigating the act. The federation also fined Ansar Tk. 100,000 for assaulting the referee and for breaking furniture. The federation also issued a severe warning about repeating such acts in the future.   

The Kabaddi federation however also came down heavily on the Bangladesh Police player Romanuzzman who was suspended for one year for his involvement in the fighting with Bangladesh Army players. Arduzzaman, also of police was suspended for six months and Abu Saleh Musa of Bangladesh Army who sustained injuries was also handed a three month ban.

Nazrul Islam, the general secretary of the kabaddi federation was happy to wrap up the issue. “We were determined to see the end and we think that we have taken justified decisions, we took a little time as the federation president was not available due to his government commitments” said Nazrul.
