Theatre fest at Shilpakala Academy sees huge crowd on weekend

The second and third day of the nine-day theatre festival titled “Shapno O Droher Jatiyo Natyo Utshob,” at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy saw huge crowd on the weekend. 

The festival featuring a total of 64 plays from 64 districts began on May 9 began on May 9 and will continue till May 17.

A total of nine plays were staged on Friday and six plays were staged on Saturday. However, there were so many people who tried to watch every production but because of staging three productions simultaneously in different venues, it was difficult for the theatre lovers to enjoy them all.

Today at National Theatre Hall, “Danesh Upakkhan” by Ranishonkyel Degree College from Gaibandhaand “Buno Sharer Golpo Abong Amra” by Dr Abul Hossain Degree College from Rajbari will be staged at 6:30pm and 8pm respectively. At the auditorium of Music and Dance Centre, “Uttar Dokkhin Purbo Poshchim Charidike Jagoron,” at 6:30pm and “Alor Ongikar” at 8pm, and “Shopno Vonger Pala,” “Khela o Khela” will be staged respectively at 6:30pm and 8pm at the Experimental Hall of BSS.

The programme is a part of BSAs project “Deshojo Sangskritir Bikash O Antorjatik Sangskritir Shathe Melbondhon,” (for the prosperity of native culture and its blending with global culture). 64 play produced by theatre troupes and educational institutes are participating in the festival which will be staged at 3 venues of BSA: National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall, Studio theatre Hall and the auditorium of Music and Dance Centre at the evenings. The participating theatre artistes are college students.

The Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit inaugurated the festival. Theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar and Ministry of Cultural Affairs Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas attended the programme as special guests of the evening. The opening session was a rendezvous of theatre activists from all across the country.
