3 killed across the country

Three people were killed in separate incidents across the country yesterday.

Armed assailants gunned down a young man and injured five others at Adamjee in front of the Jubo League office in Shiddhirganj thana, Narayanganj, on Friday night.

The deceased, Sagor, 14, a Madrasa student, lived in the Adamjee area as a tenant.

Locals and police said Sagor was standing in front his elder brother’s tea stall when he was gunned down.

According to witnesses, a clash broke out between two Jubo League leaders, Gulu and Moti.

There has been an on-going dispute between the Gulu gang and the Moti Gang over control of the area for some time.

Inspector Anisur Rahamn of Shiddhirganj police station said a case would be filed soon.

In the same district, police also recovered a decomposed body of a woman from her house at Delpara village, Fatulla yesterday.

The deceased, Ruma, 19, from Cox’s bazar district lived as a tenant at Iman Ali’s House in Delpara.

Neighbours said Ruma and her husband Saiful rented the room one month ago and that she worked at a restaurant. Saiful has been absconding for the last couple of days. 

Majahar, sub-inspector of Fatulla police station, said no clues or motives have yet been found.

The body was sent to Narayanganj general hospital for a post mortem examination, he added.

In another incident, a farmer was killed by lighting in a remote village in Meherpur yesterday.

A witness said lighting struck the farmer Yusuf Ali, 50, from Dholmary, Mujibnagar upazila while he was returning home from his fields in the rain.

He died on the way to Meherpur General Hospital.
