Seasoned actress Sharmili Ahmed is considered as an idol for all the mothers here in the country as she has been tirelessly acting in various characters of mothers for almost four decades. She is the symbol of a loving, caring and sacrificing mother of all time. Be it in silver or small screen, the actress has won the hearts of the millions audience. Dhaka Tribune had the opportunity to catch up with the artiste on the occasion of the Mother’s Day.
How do you feel about being an “idol” for all the mothers?
Being a mother is most the most precious gift in a women’s life. And being an “idol” to the audience makes me feel proud as an actress. Throughout my career, I have found the respect of a mother in home and abroad also. So I feel like I have millions of children.
What are your favourite characters of mothers so far?
Well, I cannot remember all. But, I recall the character I played in the drama series “Bondhon,” directed by Afsana Mimi, was absolutely brilliant.The character was dynamic and I used to love the shooting time. Other favourite characters I want to mention are the ones from single-episode dramas “Otopor Maa,” and “Achol.”
When did you first appear as a mother on screen?
I first appeared as a mother on screen in “Agun” (1976) directed by Mohammad Mohsin which was almost four decade ago. I was young that time and was working as a heroine in other films. After the release of this movie, a newspaper published a story on me with the headline: ‘Sharmili Ahmed successful as a mother.”
Tell us about your relationship with your daughter?
I and my daughter Tanima have a very good relationship with each other. We are like best friends. Tanima is our only child. She takes care of me as an ideal daughter. As I have become old, she appears to me as my mother now.
What is your message on the Mother’s Day?
I want to tell all the children of the world to express respect and love to their mothers and take care of them. Try to pass time with them. I also have a request to them: do not send your parents in old home.
