Hundreds of farmers in Faridpur are expecting a bumper yield of boro paddy this season.
Agriculturalists and farmers said sufficient power supply, availability of fertiliser, favourable weather and fewer pests attacks were notable contributors to the expectation of a bumper crop.
The Faridpur Department of Agriculture Extension said a total of 28,960 hectares of land were brought under boro cultivation this year.
Agriculture officials said they were expecting a bumper crop, as there was smooth supply of fertiliser and diesel.
Most farmers in the district have been using modern farming technology, they said, adding that if no disaster occurs, the farmers would harvest a surplus, which will help them to overcome previous years’ losses.
However, some farmers expressed concerns of not getting fair prices for their produce. Sources said farmers did not get fair prices in the last two years, incurring huge losses despite a bumper production.
The harvest is likely to start next week, and farmers urged the relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure fair prices for their produce this year.
