Cambrian Sports Academy, the new venture of BSB Foundation, was inaugurated yesterday at their own ground in Lalmatia. With a vision of “Taking sports one step ahead” CSA will offer short and long term courses on cricket, football, chess, table tennis and pool. Former national football star Alfaz Ahmed, who retired from all kinds of professional football just a month ago, is the head coach of the football section while former national cricketer Javed Omer Belim will take the charge of cricket academy. After BFF football academy at Sylhet and Sheikh Jamal football academy, Cambrian Sports Academy will not offer only football but also cricket, chess, table tennis and pool for the students who want acquire certification on sports. The students, depending on their eligibility, will be enrolled in short or long term courses. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Salahuddin congratulated the Cambrian authority for the initiative and pledged to provide all kind of technical support for football. "It's a wonderful initiative. Now I hope 10 or 12 more schools will come forward to start their own academy. If they want any technical support from BFF, my doors are open for them," said the BFF president. "Sport is like disease. After we started our BFF academy in Sylhet, Sheikh Jamal built their own academy; Abahani and Mohammedan are planning to begin their own academy," he added. Former Bangladesh cricket captain Habibul Bashar wished them good luck and also said, "I hope we will get future star players from here." President of the academy Lion MK Bashar said they will soon extend their academy to Keraniganj and provide scholarships to the deprived but talented students. National footballers Biplob, Hasan Al Mamun, Kanchan, former cricketer Hannan Sarkar were also present amongst others.
