Ganajagaran Mancha has expressed joy over the verdict handed to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.
Hearing the news around 2pm, they brought out a victory procession around 2:15pm towards Central Shaheed Minar, and marched along different streets of Dhaka University before returning to Shahbagh at around 3pm.
They were chanting slogans “Joy Bangla”, “Jonotar Joy Holo” (the people won), and “Shahbagh-er Joy Holo” (Shahbagh won), from the procession.
Ganagajaran Mancha convener Imran H Sarkar said the people of Bangladesh have been given the appropriate result from the International Crime Tribunal and they have been waiting for it since the Liberation War in 1971.
‘The desire of the masses has been fulfilled with the verdict,’ Imran said.
Meanwhile, people gathered in Shahbagh from the previous day, after the tribunal declared it would deliver the verdict on Thursday.
Early on Monday, police dismantled the stage of the Ganajagaran Mancha, which was formed immediately after an international crimes tribunal handed down life imprisonment to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah on February 5.
