Shahbagh Ganajagaran Mancha removed

Update : 06 May 2013, 06:07 AM

Police have removed the Ganajagaran Mancha in the capital’s Shahbagh intersection early Monday morning.

Witnesses said police disassembled the temporary stage and seized musical instruments from the spot at around 5:30am.

When contacted, Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker said he knew nothing about the removal beforehand.

The Ganajagaran Mancha has been staging protests at the busy intersection of the capital since February 5 demanding capital punishment to all who committed crimes against humanity during the 1971 War of Liberation.

The platform of bloggers and activists later included a demand for banning religion based politics including that of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Islamist outfit Hefazat-e-Islam, who had a major clash with law enforcers in the capital on Sunday, has been demanding exemplary punishment for some of the leaders of the Ganajagaran Mancha labelling them “atheist”.
