Theatre troupe Loko Natyadal (Banani) will stage its popular play “Sonai Madhob,” a romantic tragedy that portrays a passionate love between Sonai and Madhab, at 7pm on Sunday in the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The play directed by Youngin Gomez is an adaption from the “Mymensingha Gitika,” a rich collection of folk-ballades. The play is a dramatic depiction that weaves the agonies, woes and dilemmas of women in a traditional narrative. It is mainly a combination of “Padabali Kirtan” (devotional songs) and “Jatra,” (theater) added with a few traditional dance performances. It will be presented in “Pala” form through traditional music and dance recitals.
An ancient and common theatre trait of Bangladesh will be showcased in the play, where the female characters will be played by men.
The cast of the play includes Kamrun Noor Chowdhury, Touhidul Islam, Zahid Chowdhury, Youngin Gomez, Mostafa Anwar, Zahidur Rahman, Abdullah Al Haroon, Mostafa Anwar Swapan, Khairul Alam, Hafizur Rahman and Mominur Rahman.
