The old saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away may need an asterisk, in the wake of a new report says some of the most popular fruit contains the highest levels of pesticides, said Dr Israt Sadia.
According to researchers at Purdue University in Indiana, apples now top the list as the most contaminated by pesticides, even after they are peeled and washed. Strawberries round out the top of the most contaminated list, with grapes, blueberries.
The list followed at number three by pineapple, number 4 orange and watermelon at number 12. In comparison to other fruits apples gained the top spot after pesticides.
Pesticides are toxic, they keep both bugs and bacteria at bay from crops and ingestion of it also linked to various health problems, from nervous system disorders to cancer.
