Muted celebrations after win

Update : 30 Apr 2013, 04:24 AM

A solid all-round effort saw Bangladesh defeat Zimbabwe by 143 runs in the second Test, to level the series 1-1. Setting the home side a massive 401 runs for victory, Bangladesh bowled with discipline on a benign wicket to dismiss Branden Taylor's men for 257. Ziaur Rahman and Shakib al Hasan shared seven wickets as Bangladesh used both pace and spin to outwit the home team. However, the usual festivities that follow a Test win were not be seen.

Typically, a Bangladesh victory is followed by the players singing "Amra Korbo Joi" in the dressing room and a team dinner in the evening. Yesterday, however the players found no reason to rejoice.

Captain Mushfiqur Rahim explained that there would be no celebrations out of respect for those affected in the recent tragedy at Savar.

“We dedicate the win and the team's performance, to those who suffered in the incident at Savar," said the skipper and man-of-the-match Mushfiqur." It's not much, but there's not much we can do from here (Zimbabwe). However, when we get back (to Bangladesh), we plan to stand by them and do as everything possible."

The Tigers fourth ever test victory has been the only bright spot in an otherwise somber week for Bangladesh.
