9 girls back home after 2 years

Update : 29 Apr 2013, 07:58 AM

Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday handed over nine Bangladeshi girls to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after they had served two years’ jail term in that country.

Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Benapole immigration police, said that the nine girls had crossed into Indian territory, at various border-crossing points between the two countries, reported UNB.

The Indian police arrested them in Mumbai as they were illegal migrants and sent them to jail. After completion of the jail term, the Indian government decided to hand the girls back to Bangladesh, following several exchange of letters between the two countries. The handover was done after completion of necessary formalities by the home ministries of the two countries.

The Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) has been entrusted with the task of sending the girls to their respective homes.
