ACC appoints IT expert to recover deleted emails on PB scam

Update : 23 Apr 2013, 04:38 PM

The Anti Corruption Commission Tuesday declared it has appointed an Information Technology expert to recover deleted email and documents related to the Padma Bridge corruption scandal.

ACC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said they have formally appointed Hasan-Uz-Zaman, assistant programmer of Bangladesh Computer Council to accomplish the task.

“Hasan-Uz-Zaman will work with the investigation officers of Padma Bridge case to help them recover deleted e-mails and technically assist them”, he said.

The ACC investigation team already seized computers and laptops from the offices of former Bridges Division secretary Mosharrof Hossain Bhuiyan and Superintendent (river training) Engineer Quazi M Ferdous, both of whom were accused of graft.

Commission sources said that Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer Md Riaz Ahmed Jaber had stolen a Request for Proposal (RFP) from the bridges division and emailed it to another accused, Mohammad Ismail.

The newly appointed IT expert will look into this matter as well.

Anti Corruption Commission on December 17 filed a case accusing seven people of conspiring to commit corruption in the Padma bridge project with Banani Police Station, including Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Quazi M Ferdous.  It also dropped the name of former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain and former state minister for foreign affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury from the list of accused.

The other accused in the case are Riaz Ahmad Jaber, Engineering Planners Consultant Ltd Deputy Managing Director Mohammad Mostafa, Director of international projects at Canadian construction firm SNC-Lavalin, Mohammed Ismail, and SNC-Lavalin former vice presidents, Ramesh Shah and Kevin Wallace.
