The 36-hour shutdown called by the BNP-led 18-party alliance is being marked through explosions and vandalism across the country today.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal brought out a procession at 6:30am and exploded one cocktail in front of Mirpur Government Bangla College and four in front of Ansar Camp area. They also vandalised a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area.
The hartal supporters brought out a procession in the Azimpur area of the capital at 6:45am. They exploded two cocktails there after police chased them.
Chhatra Shibir activists brought out a sudden procession in Badda area at 7:30am.
Ten vehicles, including one owned by the education ministry, were set on fire in different areas of the capital yesterday apparently to build pro-hartal momentum ahead of the 36-hour nationwide shutdown.
The BNP-led 18 party alliance has called the 36-hour nationwide shutdown from 6am Tuesday to 6pm Wednesday in response to the denial of bail for seven senior BNP leaders including its acting secretary general.
The alliance will hold demonstrations in every district headquarter including Dhaka on April 27.
The programme was announced after a meeting of secretary generals of the BNP-led 18-party alliance held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday.
