Bloggers’ cases change court

The two cases against four bloggers being held for “hurting religious sentiments” were passed on from the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court yesterday.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Zahurul Haque will fix a date today to hear the charges in the cases, court officer Nurul Alam told Dhaka Tribune.

On April 17, investigating officers’ submitted reports saying they had filed two separate cases against the bloggers under section 57(2) of the Information Communication and Technology Act - 2006.

Later that day a metropolitan magistrate court rejected their bail and had sent them to jail.

The four bloggers are -Asif Mohiuddin, Moshiur Rahman Biplob, Rasel Parvez and Subbrata Adhikari Shuvo.

On April 2, the detective branch of police arrested bloggers Biplob, Russel and Shubho for “hurting religious sentiments” with their “derogatory” posts and comments on blogs and social networking sites and interrogated them for seven days. Asif, arrested a day later, was also interrogated for four days.
