At least 10 vehicles were vandalised and one torched at Chandraganj bazaar, Sadar upazila over a rumoured death of two schoolboys in a road accident Sunday.
Witnesses and police said that Ashikur Rahman and Marwan, class 8 students of Pratapganj High School, were critically injured as a bus hit them from behind at about 8:30am.
They were first admitted to a local clinic, and then shifted to Noakhali General Hospital. A rumor over their death spread among the local people and fellow students, triggering the unrest.
Agitated people went on the rampage and put up barricades made of logs on the Lakshmipur-Dhaka highway near Chandraganj bazaar.
Law enforcers brought the situation under control at around 11:30am.
