Ansar stun star-studded BJMC

Update : 22 Apr 2013, 10:40 AM

A spirited Bangladesh Ansar & VDP side emerged as champions in the women's handball discipline of the 8th Bangladesh Games beating star-studded BJMC in a thrilling final at the National Handball stadium yesterday.

Ansar won the game by 31-23 goals, but the result hardly explains the tempo of the game. The first-half saw an even contest as it ended 12-12, but a rejuvenated Ansar appeared in the second-half to add 19 goals to their name.

Nishi slammed 11 goals while Bhulu and Moyna scored seven and five goals respectively for Ansar. Dalia, Shirina and Rupa netted seven, five and four goals respectively for BJMC.

BJMC, who won the gold of the same event in the last edition of Bangladesh Games in 2002, contains most of the national team names in their squad. It was also a sweet revenge for the Ansar girls who lost the National Handball Championship to the same opponents just three months ago.

Ansar coach Kamrul Islam said that his team was highly motivated to win the gold medal.

Meanwhile, in the third-place deciding match, Dhaka outplayed Dinajpur 20-10 to win the bronze medal. Kohinor netted eight goals while Sumi scored five for Dhaka. Naznin scored six and Aleya added three goals for the losing side.
