President election on April 29

The Election Commission today set April 29 for electing the 20th president of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.  

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed announced the schedule for election to the top post of the state at the Election Commission Secretariat in the afternoon. 

As per the schedule, candidates are requested to submit applications with the election commission within April 21 while the commission will scrutinise the applications on April 22.

The last date for withdrawing the application is April 24.

According to the constitution, in case of a vacancy in the office of the president due to demise, resignation or removal, the election commission will hold elections to elect a new office bearer within the period of 90 days after the occurrence of the vacancy.

The office of the president of Bangladesh has gone vacant with the demise of the 19th President Zillur Rahman on March 20.
