A man has been arrested and sentenced to two years in jail for allegedly selling used masks, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), and gloves.

A RAB mobile court conducted an operation in Fashertek Balur Math area under Bhatara police station in Dhaka on Friday and arrested the convict Monir Hossain.

Monir collected the used PPEs and other used items from various hospitals , then washed  and re-packaged those for sale.

RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam confirmed the matter.

“Acting on a tip-off we conducted a raid with the help of RAB 1 and Bhatara police on Friday night and found Monir and three others storing the used PPEs, masks, and gloves,” he said.

Sarwoer said it was very unethical work on their part  to do this in the midst of this pandemic.

The RAB magistrate urged people to make sure they buy new medical items in order to keep themselves secure.

“We are trying to arrest three others who are involved with such activities and our operation is ongoing,” he added.

Sarwoer said the culprits took the used products to Mitford and Kamrangamrichar areas and sold many.

“There is no chance to recycle all these medical wastes. It can bring dire consequences for the coronavirus situation,” he added.
