Update : 28 Mar 2016, 06:52 AM

DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has said they have started a community and bit policing system to rid the public of its fear of police.

He made the statement in a programme held at the DMP Headquarters on Monday afternoon.

The commissioner said: “People have a fear of crime and police. We are working on removing these fears.

“We have started a community and bit policing system in every police station as an initiative to get rid of the fear people have for us.”

He said: “Three to seven bits have been formed in one police station with an in-charge for every bit. The officer in-charge will work for the bit at least for two years.”

Asaduzzaman Mia mentioned friendliness between police and the public as one of the tools to remove such fears.

The DMP chief also emphasized the need for police accountability for good governance.

In answer to a query, he said: “We show zero tolerance if any of our officials are found misusing their power or getting involved in criminal activities.”

During the programme, Rangs Motor Group donated two vehicles to the DMP.
