Bando Design Ltd and Comfit Composite Knit Ltd sealed their places in the final of the inaugural BGMEA Cup football tournament on Saturday.
In the double legged semifinal, Bando registered identical wins of 1-0 over Envoy Group to reach the final while Comfit edged past Apparel Industry Ltd on an overall aggregate of 1-0.
Comfit and Apparel played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg before Shohag scored the all important goal of the tie in the return match to seal their first ever final of a tournament.
Meanwhile, all attention were on the match between the two hot favorites Bando and Envoy. Shakil handed Bando the advantage with his goal in the first leg as Envoy came out heavily in the second leg to change their fortune.
But they were unable to turn the tables as Mridul’s goal and Rajib’s heroics under the bar ensured Bando reached the final in style.
In the other matches, Sterling Group came back from a goal down to beat Versatile Group 2-1 in the final of the Plate category. After an own goal from Rumi, Jewel scored twice in the last 10 minutes as Sterling’s dream run ended perfectly.
Earlier, Sterling beat Torque 2-0 while Versatile handed Epyllion a 1-0 defeat in the Plate semifinals.
Rony from Sterling was named the Most Valuable Player in Plate category while Jewel was named the Man of the Final.
BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman, senior vice-president Faruk Hasan, vice-president Ferdous Parvez Bivon, vice-president finance Mohammad Nasir and director Monsurul Haq Monju were present among other dignitaries and handed over prizes to the teams.
The final match of the BGMEA Cup between Bando and Comfit will be played at the Army Stadium on Friday, April 1. The match will be telecast live on GTV.
