Update : 22 Mar 2016, 05:55 AM

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CT) and Detective Branch (DB) of police have jointly arrested four suspected militants from the capital's Kalyanpur bus stand area in Mirpur.

The arrested militants are Abdur Razzak Omayer, Faysal Ahmed, Ahmod Fazle Akbar and Abu Nayeem Mohammad Jakaria.

In a press briefing, police said the militants had plan to carry out subversive acts in the Ekushey Book Fair. But, after failing to execute the plan, they made another plan to kill two people.

Without mentioning the names of the two people, CT chief Monirul Islam said one of the duo is a lawyer and another is a Pir.

"Acting on a tip-off, CT and DB jointly conducted a drive at Kalyanpur bus stand around 8:30pm Monday and arrested the four militants along with some jihadi books," Monirul said.

Stating that the militant group has no organisational structure, the CT chief said the militants work in co-ordination basis without any leadership.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they got financial support from several JMB members.
