Two people have been injured as police shot them while they attempted to rig votes at a polling centre in Kumira union under Tala upazila of Satkhira district.
The incident took place when supporters of an Awami League chairman candidate tried to cast votes in his favour at Vaghbah polling centre early on Tuesday.
Bullet-hit Ward union Awami League General Secretary Ruhul Kiddus and his younger brother Ruhul Amin were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Witnesses said AL men led by the two brothers were casting votes and filling up the ballot boxes hours before the voting began.
The presiding officer tried to stop them but they paid no any attention to him. Later, police fired gunshots when they attacked the law enforcers.
Patkelghat OC Tariqul Islam confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the ruling party have reportedly beaten up four Ansar men at Horishchondrokati polling centre in Khalilnagar union.
Moreover, Awami League candidate Aslamul Hoque tried to snatch away ballot papers from the presiding officer at Kolatupi Government Primary School centre late on Monday night.
Presiding Officer Goutam Ghosh said: “I have informed the matter to the higher authorities.”
Ibrahim Hossain, BNP's chairman candidate from Deora union, claimed that miscreants exploded at least five bombs at his residence at midnight on Monday.
Voting began at 78 unions of the district around 8am on Tuesday.
