28 indicted in Banshkhali arms recovery case

The Rapid Action Battalion yesterday submitted a charge sheet before a Chittagong court implicating 28 activists of newly-formed militant outfit Shaheed Hamja Brigade, (SHM) including Barrister Shakila Farzana and two other lawyers. 

“Assistant Superintendent of Police of RAB 7 Ruhul Amin also the Investigation Officer of the case submitted the charge sheet against them before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate,” said Chief Commanding Officer of RAB 7 Lieutenant Commander Mifta Uddin Ahmed.

“Implicating 28 persons, including Supreme Court’s Barrister Shakila Farzana and two other lawyers— Advocate Md Hasanuzzaman Liton and Dhaka Judge Court’s Advocate Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon, the RAB submitted the charge sheet under the Anti-Terrorism Act,” he said.

It is the second charge sheet against the SHB by the RAB while another charge sheet against 11 persons of SHB was also submitted before a court in Chittagong on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip off, members of the elite force busted a hideout of Hamja Brigade from Lotmoni Pahar,  Banshkhali upazila, Chittagong on February 22, last year.

Five persons were arrested during the drive. Later, three AK-22 rifles, seven pistols, a revolver, eight machetes, some pairs of army combat shoes and boots, a large number of bullets, some wally-talky sets and some track-suits were seized from their possessions.  Later, RAB found link of three lawyers and a RMG business man with the SHB during investigation.
