Neurosurgeon Prof Rashiduddin passes away

Bangladesh’s pioneer neurosurgeon Prof Rashiduddin Ahmad has passed away at Metropolitan Medical Centre in the capital on Saturday.

According to the information desk officials of the hospital, the renowned neurosurgeon breathed his last around 8:15pm while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Prof Rashid will be held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University ground at 10am Sunday, said family members.

Later, his body will be taken to his ancestral home in Narshingdi district. The second namaz-e-janaza of the neurosurgeon will be held after Zohur prayer at Shaheed Ghyasuddin Ahmad Girls School ground.

He was battling for life after suffering from a brain stroke, which doctors term Hemorrhagic stroke, on February 9.

Hemorrhagic stroke, is caused by a blood vessel that breaks and bleeds into the brain.

The founding chairman of neurosurgery unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was admitted to Metropolitan Medical Centre in the capital and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) immediately after he went into a coma.

According to the doctors, the 79-year-old remained in a coma but was in a stable condition until Saturday morning.

Prof Rashid is survived by his wife Dr Quamrun Nahar, daughter Rashida Ahmad and son Reza Ahmad.
