Update : 18 Mar 2016, 06:53 AM

Bogra upazila Jamaat chief Rezaul Karim Bacchu addressed the programme organised to mark the 96th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday.

Being angered to see him speaking on the occasion, some Awami League leaders and activists left the programme venue.

Chief guest of the programme MP Habibur Rahman, also a freedom fighter, said upazila administration invited the Jamaat leader as he is a vice-chairman of Dhunat upazila parishad.

He said that he was also disheartened to see the Jamaat leader at the programme.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hafizur Rahman said Rezaul Karim attends government programmes as a vice chairman of the upazila parishad.

"As part of this, he might have attended that programme too," he added.

Different socio-political and cultural organisations, including the Awami League and its affiliate bodies, observed the 96th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Thursday.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu was born in a respectable Muslim family at Tungipara village, which is now a upazila in Gopalganj district. He was the third child among four daughters and two sons of his parents - Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira Khatun.
